Having a backyard wedding can save you quite a bit of money, and in some cases, make your day even more special by having everyone over either where you grew up or the house you and your significant other share, etc.
Benefits of a Backyard Wedding
There are many benefits to having your wedding in your backyard or the family backyard, or even someone you know who’s willing to offer theirs up.
- No venue fee
- No ‘preferred vendors’
- No time limits (other than bed and possibly neighbors – see below for more on dealing with them)
- Freedom to decorate how you see fit
Potential Drawbacks of a Backyard Wedding
- Backyard size and layout determines how many people you can invite
- Restroom facilities may be limited and reach capacity, resulting in lines
- You’ll be responsible for renting or finding tables, linens, chairs, etc.
As you can see, the drawbacks listed really aren’t that bad and hosting your wedding in a backyard can really work out to your advantage. After all, the goal of the evening is to profess your love to each other and celebrate that love with your family and friends.
Someone you know is a great cook? Ask them to cater it for you!
Your nephew is a budding photographer? Give him the task of taking pictures of the evening.
You can really start checking off the boxes of “what’s required” when hosting your own event – allowing you all the freedom in the world to keep your wedding fun, beautiful, and budget friendly.
A note about your neighbors, if you plan on having a backyard wedding, it may be worth your while to just knock on your surrounding neighbors’ doors a week or more ahead of time to let them know what’s going on and that you’ll appreciate their understanding. This will hopefully prevent them from calling the cops on your music levels – check one for not ruining your special day! And you’ll also look like the nice guy because you kept them in the loop about why there’s so many cars parked on the streets. Bonus points if you happen to be friends with the neighbors and they’ll be at the wedding anyways!
