Wedding invitations aren’t cheap! They can quickly add up to $1,000 or more. Which, if you’re planning a budget wedding, can seem quite daunting. But not to worry, as there are plenty of options for you to save and get some cheap wedding invitations – without compromising on the quality. The amount of guests you’re inviting will always affect the cost of your invitations (and everything else amiright?)

Let’s start with the four common routes you can take for wedding invitations:
- Professional Invitation/Graphic Designer
- Stationery Company
- Online Wedding Invitation Printer
- DIY Wedding Invitations
Let’s dive in, shall we?
First let’s define the wedding stationery suite:
- Save the Date
- Wedding Invitation
- Reception Card
- RSVP Card
Optional – Nice, but Spendy:
- Table Number Cards
- Place Cards
- Dinner Menus
- Wedding Programs
It’s also helpful to think about getting thank you cards that match, to further tie your event together.
Professional Invitation/Graphic Designers
Going with a professional designer will certainly not guarantee you cheap wedding invitations, but you will have the most freedom here. This method can cost upwards of $1,200 and up – due to the time they put into making a completely custom suite, plus specialty printing techniques (letterpress wedding invitations are trendy right now due to their elegant appearance – but they also cost a pretty penny!).
Stationery companies fall in line just below professional designers as you’re still having something professionally printed, but choosing from existing papers, fonts and colors to create something that fits your theme. This method can definitely result in a beautiful suite, and while it won’t run you quite as much as a designer, it can reach upwards of $500 – $700 or more. You will more than likely still have specialty options like letterpress or engraved printing methods as well, allowing for a variety of looks to fit your wedding.
Online Wedding Invitation Printers
These are a modern addition to the set of wedding invitation options. Places like Wedding Paper Divas allow you to choose from existing templates, or if you’re so inclined, upload your own design – and choose an appropriate paper type and color combination in a variety of quantities that should cover anyone’s needs. I actually requested one of their free sample kits and I was floored. The papers they have available really give an impression of quality, and the printing is just as great! They also have plenty of templates, with many including the full suite so all you’d need to do is plug in your names, location, dates and times and hit buy. Side note: They even have customized postage – adorable right? If you’re looking to save some money on your wedding invitations, online printers are definitely your best bet. They usually address your envelopes (huge timesaver!) and have enough options for you to put something nice together without much compromise. Win-win right?!
DIY Wedding Invitations
Do it yourself wedding invitations can save you a lot of money! There are many options for DIY solutions ranging from templates for printing on your own paper from your desktop printer to hand lettering and assembling your own very detailed suites. The biggest tip for DIY invitations is to be creative or know someone who is creative! The savings you can gain by doing it yourself will all be for not if you put together something you’re not happy with. If you don’t have a creative (optimally a designer of some form – they’ll be priceless!) you can still come up with a special invitation. You can even find a kit that allows you to have a nice looking invitation for a low cost.
Sealing the Deal…
Our vote goes to online wedding invitation printers for offering great looking suites at affordable prices. Most have a free sample kit that you can order to experience their quality and paper style before ordering. Another plus is that we haven’t found an online printer with a higher minimum than 10 pieces. That should definitely fit in to almost anyone’s budget!
