Wedding photography is one of the most expensive aspects of your wedding that you’ll pay for… and justly so – you want to keep wonderful memories of your special day! But, with the cost of a photographer starting at over $2,000, you may not be able to afford one. That’s okay though, because with some creative thinking and cheap wedding photography, you can have special memories that will be with you for a lifetime.
Cheap Wedding Photography
You’ve Got A Friend…
Do you know anyone who is a photographer, or even does it as a hobby? Maybe consider asking them to be your photographer for free or cheap. The least they’ll get out of it is some portfolio pieces, a free meal and drinks. Definitely let them bring up the “free” part, you can guide the conversation there by saying, “I’m not sure how much you usually charge for this, do you have something in mind?” something like that should get them thinking and if they were planning on doing it at no charge, they’ll say so.
Grab a Coffee
Check your favorite coffee shop to see if they have a local advertisement board for small business owners/freelancers/hobbyists to post their business cards or contact information. You may be able to find someone there who has a good and affordable package they can put together for you.
Employ Your Guests
Make ’em work for their meal! JK 😉 Truthfully, you can put disposable cameras on each table and have them drop them back off at the end of the night, which you can get developed and go on to assemble your wedding photo album. Or, if you really want to #gosocial! Incorporate a hashtag relevant to your wedding (usually husband and wife wedding, i.e. #hudsonandlilywedding; or last name wedding location, i.e. #smithweddingcharleston) into your table cards, menu boards, etc. This will encourage your guests to actively take pictures and post them, and hopefully they’ll use said hashtag – making it easy for you to sift through them afterwards! Plus you get some fun social coverage out of the event!
The most important thing is be confident in your decision! This is definitely one area where if you can, try and focus at least a little of your budget and do some reaching out to local wedding photographers to see what their pricing may be, or what kind of a deal they can cut you. The good thing is, is they are usually open to negotiation, and can hopefully work with you to fit your budget. We say this because these are your physical memories of your wedding, you can’t change not getting that one picture that just captured the moment – there is no recreating your wedding.
